Additonal Symptoms
Other Problems in Scleroderma
A variety of additional symptoms are often seen in scleroderma patients, but rarely are all present in one sufferer. Uncomfortable dryness in the mouth and eyes due to lack of saliva and tears can be improved by using specialised products from the chemist. Difficulty in swallowing can be treated by outpatient throat-widening procedures. Difficultly in walking can be helped by physiotherapy. Bloating, overall weakness, tiredness, aching muscles, painful joints, and poorly functioning bowels can be treated by various medications and natural remedies. More serious involvement of the lungs, heart, and kidneys are treated by newer drugs now available, and for this reason patients should be under the care of a rheumatologist or other specialist.
